Living Independently for Today and Tomorrow (LIFTT) in cooperation with The City of Billings-Yellowstone Planning Division and Healthy by Design invites you to join us for a unique event designed to explore how our community is designed (or not) to be healthy and accessible for all of its citizens regardless of age, disability, access to automobiles or other socio-economic factors.
On Thursday October 10, we will be conducting an inclusive interdisciplinary walk audit of a section of the neighborhood near our Grand Avenue office. The purpose of the audit is to identify features that both positively and negatively affect the health and accessibility of neighborhoods and to begin a discussion on how we might envision future development which is inclusive of us all.
During the walk audit, we will also utilize Streetwyze, a tool that allows residents to identify what they like about their community and opportunities for improvement. Input is captured through pictures and comments from the user. There will be a short training on how to use this technology at the walk audit event.
The walk audit event will take place on Thursday October 10, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. with the event to run according to the following schedule:
• 12:30 to 1:30: Gather at the LIFTT office (1201 Grand Avenue) Lunch, Introduction to inclusive interdisciplinary walk audit process and the Streetwyze system.
• 1:30 to 2:30 Walk audit, approximately 1-mile roundtrip with several stops along the way. We will walk from LIFTT across Grand, down 13th Street W past Lewis & Clark Middle School, then down Lewis to Spring Creek Park (15th and Lewis), up 15th Street W to Grand Avenue, and return to LIFTT.
• 2:30 to 3:30 Back at the LIFTT office to discuss what we learned on the walk and the potential for making changes both on the ground in the neighborhood and at a citywide policy level to encourage a healthier and more accessible community. We will also be drawing for some door prizes!
We hope you can make time in your schedule to attend this important event. As we are will be serving lunch please RSVP by Monday October 7. For more information about the walk audit or to RSVP contact Jed Barton at (406) 294-5186 or jedb@liftt.org.
